Frequency of health care provider recommendations for HPV vaccination: a survey in three large cities in China
DISCUSSION: The frequency of HCPs' recommendations for HPV vaccination in China was much lower than that in many developed countries. To enhance the recommendation frequency, medical institutions should help HCPs gain more knowledge of HPV and master communication skills. At the same time, the government should take measures to enhance the accessibility of HPV vaccines. The media should help to alleviate people's concerns and encourage them to face up sexual health.PMID:37497028 | PMC:PMC10366465 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2023.1203610

Managing the transition in cervical screening methods for Taiwan: Policy recommendations and perspectives
J Formos Med Assoc. 2023 Jul 12:S0929-6646(23)00246-2. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince government-provided annual cervical cytology testing for all Taiwanese women aged 30 years or older became available in 1995, both cervical cancer incidence and death have decreased significantly. However, with the 2018 introduction of the national immunization program for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in all schoolgirls aged 13-15 years old, the positive predictive value of cytology testing is expected to decrease with rising vaccination rates, and therefore a transition to more sensitive HP...

Nationwide introduction of HPV vaccine in Zimbabwe 2018-2019: Experiences with multiple cohort vaccination delivery
PLOS Glob Public Health. 2022 Apr 6;2(4):e0000101. doi: 10.1371/journal.pgph.0000101. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for girls aged 9-14 years for cervical cancer prevention and encourages vaccinating multiple cohorts in the first year to maximize impact. The HPV vaccine was introduced nationwide in Zimbabwe in 2018 through a 1-week school-based campaign to multiple cohorts (all girls 10-14 years old), followed by a single cohort (grade 5 girls in school and age 10 girls out-of-school) in 2019. During the 2019 campaign, the multiple cohort's se...

The cost-effectiveness of human papillomavirus vaccination in the Philippines
Vaccine. 2022 May 20:S0264-410X(22)00609-0. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.05.025. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the Philippines. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination provides protection from the most common cancer-causing HPV types. This analysis used a proportionate outcomes model to estimate the potential cost-effectiveness of four different HPV vaccine products-Cervarix™, Cecolin®, GARDASIL®, and GARDASIL®9-for routine HPV vaccination of 10 cohorts of 9-year-old girls from the government and societal perspectives. Model parameters included cervical can...

Parents' attitudes, beliefs and uptake of the school-based human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program in Jakarta, Indonesia - A quantitative study
We examined parents' beliefs, attitudes and intentions to allow their daughters to receive the HPV vaccine, as well as the uptake of the vaccine. This cross-sectional study was conducted between September and November 2019 in Jakarta. We invited 680 parents or guardians of year 6 female students from 33 primary schools who were offered the free HPV vaccine to complete a questionnaire; 484 (71%) responded. Analysis was done in two groups: the 'Decided' Group (those parents who allowed or denied for their daughter to receive the HPV vaccination), and the 'Undecided' Group (those parents who did not recall being approached ab...

Promoting adolescent health through integrated human papillomavirus vaccination programs: The experience of Togo
Vaccine. 2021 Nov 26:S0264-410X(21)01466-3. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.11.021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe introduction of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has shown potential to not only prevent cervical cancer but also drive adolescents' access to other health care services, even in low-income countries. Few studies have been conducted to date to identify best practices and estimate the acceptance, operational challenges and benefits of including broader adolescent health interventions into immunization efforts, knowledge which is essential to supporting widespread integration. In this paper we review the ef...

Vaccine. 2021 Sep 27:S0264-410X(21)01075-6. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.08.042. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFollowing successful school-based demonstration programs in 2014-2016, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was introduced nationwide in Senegal for 9-year-old girls in 2018, using a routine service delivery strategy at health facilities, schools, and other outreach sites. We reviewed the HPV vaccine introduction in Senegal to understand the successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Focusing on three key domains (program decision-making, planning, and implementation), we conducted ten semi-structured interviews...

Access to HPV vaccination in Japan: Increasing social trust to regain vaccine confidence
Vaccine. 2021 Sep 7:S0264-410X(21)01145-2. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.08.085. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVaccine hesitancy is a growing concern in global public health, and illustrates serious problems arising from loss of social trust. Japan is experiencing a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine crisis that started with a rapid decline in the vaccination rate in 2013 from approximately 70% to less than 1% and lasting for 7 years. We analyze Japan's case of vaccine hesitancy for HPV vaccine, using a framework for examining barriers to access and use of health technologies according to four categories: architecture, avail...
